Administrator, Museum, Temporary, mid September to early December, London, £14.20 per hour plus holiday pay
This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident Administrator with an enthusiasm for working in the Museum sector. As part of the Collections Care team you will carry out a wide range of core museum tasks. The team is responsible for the accurate location and movement of objects using barcode technology. You will contribute to projects that increase access to and use of the collections and also the care of them. This is an onsite role working within a busy team – to start mid to late September until early December.
Duties will include:
- Documentation, labelling, marking, packing and preparing collections for digitisation or for movement to storage
- Focussing on delivering excellent customer service, ensuring value for money while being professional and courteous
- Use corporate systems as directed to ensure consistency of service, brand and operational standards
- Working across departments effectively, working with employees, and where appropriate volunteers
- Undertaking the movement of items to and from storage
- Moving of licenced and hazardous objects as part of the collections
- Undertaking object inventory documentation
- Assisting in the delivery of core corporate projects.
- Undertaking inventory, basic documentation and exit processes, overseeing processing of access digitisation orders, collection movement projects, supporting exhibition installations
- Reorganising of storage areas, including undertaking packing projects, as defined by media requirements and storage environment to an agreed schedule,
- Contributing to the housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance of collection items and storage areas,
- Checking condition of collections (e.g. identifying paper requiring minor repairs, minor repairs on library books)
- Identifying any collection condition issues, risks or building defects (plant or fabric) to the Head of Department
- Providing supervision of contractors including supervising temporary staff or external contractors working on collection projects
- Ensuring adherence to safe working practices, working to agreed method and risk assessments
Skills and experience needed:
- Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines, and to deal with a demanding workload
- Experience of working in an environment where items are accounted for, sorted in alpha numeric order, moved and located accurately on a database following corporate policies and procedures
- A commitment to learning new skills and knowledge with an adaptable approach
- An interest in working in museum and learning about the barcode system
- Attention to detail and a good team worker
